Hp 5650

has anyone come across this annoying new habit with their printer? when i turn on all the kit, the hp insists on loading a piece of paper, waiting for ages printing nothing, then ejecting it. there's nothing in the queue and it is a recent thing since moving house! no other faults are obvious.

any ideas?

check for paper jams

If it's vista run the diagnosis utility

check through the manual for a factory reset

2 important things i did not mention and did not know i'd forgotten until i tried the solutions.......

1) the printer is running on parrallel NOT usb
2) the computer is w2k NOT vista.

i have tried to search HP for a similar solution but there's nothing to say what to do. I dont have the manual...

the printer loads the paper and waits, even before i've turned the computer on so could the problem be with just the printer?

It could be the printer... check the manual to do a full reset. Also, remove the printer driver entirely and install the HP550C driver and run a test print... does it still do it?

You use the 550C driver because it is the most stable basic colour printer driver HP ever provided. If it still does it with that, it is the printer.
