    AVC.exe ??

avc.exe is running on a customers machine and taking up huge chunks of system resources. a google search didn't find anything and spybot, adaware and hijackthis don't find anything. norton and trendmicros housecall also come up clean.

Where is the file stored? Is it being called at startup through run in the registry or the startup folder?

Are there any details in the file properties? What happens if you kill the process?

I would remove it from run in the reg and see if anything complains after a restart.

Is there anything in the menu when you right-click on a file in Explorer that could explain it? Some app that puts a shell extension in there for ease of use.

Quick googling says it could be an Advanced Voice Client or perhaps a firewire management system.

i've removed it from the registry, and after a restart it restores itself. i haven't seen anything that could explain it. i didn't see anything about a voice client or a firewire managment system

Have you found the file to which the registry refers?

Have you tried hunting in safe mode?

    Hello from Hamburg/Germany,

it could be a running process of Xilisoft Video encoder! Do you have it installed?? Ive seen at the task manager, when i encode a video for my Handy! It was the one and only process which takes 90% cpu activity!
    So could it be that??

I've got the avc.exe, when I run "ImTOO 3GP Video Converter" encoding AVI to 3GP. It's not longer in the task manager, when encoding is finished.

    Smile DVD Burning software

This is from DVD burning/ripping software. Cant say if its an updater or not but it does attempt to contact the internet. Not a virus
