Publisher 2000 automatically running on startup
There is a single WINNT PC on our network where Publisher 2000 *always* starts up when someone logs on.
There is no trace of a file in the 'startup' of the Start Menu. And I have looked in the Registry entry for
\\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CU RRENT_VERSION\RUN
and there appears to be nothing in there that would cause this either.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

Have you looked in all the User Profile start menu start up folders? If not, do a Find File for *pub.exe and see where they are
Good luck!

thanks for the suggestion, but no luck there unfortunately. i should add that the message "Publisher cannot open file" comes up too, which would suggest it is trying to open a specific publisher file which doesn't exist any more. just a case of finding what is triggering it i suppose!!!

Registered User
Delete all temp files.
I had a similar probl with Word.
Turned out it was still trying to open a file
someone had received by mail.
Go figure....
Keep us posted.

Then delete everything out of all the Recent folders too. It's probable a file was not shut down properly, on a network share or floppy drive, and has caused a glitch
If that don't work, do a search on all drives for *.pub and delete any you don't need (like duplicates in Profiles).
Good luck!

If that doesn't work, blow away the local profiles. I've had instances where that fixed the weirdest things.

I would also try these keys in the registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunServices
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunServicesOnce
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\RunServices
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\RunServicesOnce

nope, no dice on the registry. was one weird entry that shouldn't have been there but otherwise all was as it should be. i must be missing something obvious!

busted! bit of a long winded solution, but i uninstalled publisher, and logged in again - it seemed as though it was attempting load a .TMP file (though it didn't say where from), so i went out and cleared all the remaining references to MSPUB from the registry. obviously TMP files had somehow become associated with publisher. logged in again and it was referring to a file INS5.TMP or something similar, which i again found in the registry, deleted, et voila.
one PC that now starts up cleanly again.
thanks for all the suggestions folks! seems to be that a mixture of all the ideas helped solve it.
