Flat screen monitor ratios

I have decided to buy a modern flat monitor but why are they all widescreen? I have a lot of photos all 6 to 4 ratio as photograsphy is a big thing with me, what effect would a widescreen monitor have on them? I don't want them squashed or chopped. Where can I get a monitor that is not CRT with normal ratio in UK?

I have 2 wide screens. A 26 in and a 22 and i don't really notice anything being squashed or mashed. Maybe its just me but they seem to adapt somehow. I would advise quality ones like LG.

Well I could point you somewhat in the right direction of a few it's not the cheapest direction though since it's major manufacturers. I know Dell, HP, and Gateway have options to buy their monitors only. I also know you can get them in the normal aspect ratio instead of widescreen. My other terminal uses a NEC flat panel that is normal ratio too so you may be able to contact them for one.

I would suggest, however, that once you start using a wide-screen LCD, you won't ever want to go back to a standard ratio screen.

As long as you set the correct resolution in Windows to match the resolution of the monitor, everything will maintain the correct proportions.

If you leave the setting as it is for a normal 4:3 monitor and use a widescreen, then everything gets stretched and squashed looking.

That is a bit pricy for a 1000-1 ratio ( it says 'up to' 20,000-1).

Looks to me like the price difference (about £25) gets HDMI with Full HD 1080p and 2mS compared with 5.

1680x1080 may be a resolution lacking in some computers.

I don't know about the UK, but in Australia, the service backup is better from LG than from Acer.

What video card are you using morselady?

Play.com have a range of 22" monitors. That LG is very nice though... how much were you quoted for it?

On Currys £159.99. I am using a 256mb Nvidia card.

That's a good price for it... does the nvidia card have dvi?

I should think so as the socket on the back of the machine is DVI and I have to use a converter to plug in an AVG monitor. I must hunt out the spec.

Then you are good to go. That's a good monitor at that price.. just make sure that's what they deliver!
