boot problem, please help

I recently started getting this error, the pc is fine once it finally boots, but it has nothing to do with startup programs, because the slowness begins from the windows logo bar thing shortly after the computer is turned on, the bar continues to animate for about 2 minutes, then after its through with that, the screen goes black (no mouse or anything but my usb keyboard lights up still) for about another 3-4 minutes until it finally boots to the desktop.

my computer Spec is
vista 64
6gb ddr3 ram
i7 processor 3.2ghz

please help me .

What antivirus are you using?

Is the hard drive making excess noises? Heating up excessively?

Samtech, take a look at Vista's new and improved Event Viewer. It includes diagnostic reports for slow boot times. Here's a really good step-by-step tutorial. Clicking the images in the main article will enlarge them so they are legible.

I am using McAfee Antivirus and i did not hear any noise in my computer

I would use msconfig (Start Run type msconfig hit enter)and stop everything from loading on boot.
Especially mcaffee and see how it boots

I'm having a feeling it's the residuals of another virus scan and mcafee conflicting on the start up. I would suggest making absolutely sure you removed the previous virus scanners. You may even need the cleanup tool for the certain ones you want to make sure are gone. Since it's that early in the startup I would assume you should be looking in your services and see if there are any other virus scanner components in there too.

Yes , i did msconfig in safe mode . there were little bit increased in booting speed. But not too much. still like system slow.

How about making sure one of the ram sticks didn't go bad? I suggest taking them out save one and trying a boot with reduced ram to see if that might be the culprit. Also, it wouldn't hurt to take out any unneeded peripherals such as floppy drives, wireless cards, etc. to see if they aren't causing grief.

yes , i did as Guts3d say. but still same. and i have no any unneeded peripherals as Guts3d said. Do I need to do somethings else ? or Reinstall Vista.

If you can find another hard drive that is fairly large and not needed, I would suggest just that to see if it is a hardware or a software issue. Good luck!

I have seen slow boot times and slow in windows due to the drive being stuck in PIO mode. If you go to the device manager and look at ide/ata controler/advanced setting and see what mode it is in. If it is in PIO uninstall the drive and reboot and it will put it back at mode 5.

If you disable macafee, does the boot time improve?

Yes, When I disabled McAfee, my computer boot performance is definitely increase, that means there is some thing problem in McAfee,
