CD/DVD Combo Drive Does Not Recognize DVD-ROM Media
Okay, I have a small problem with my computer.
It has a DVD R/RW Burner, and it should be able to read DVD-ROM discs.
But, the problem is that it tries to read the media, and it fails. The computer doesn't even recognize the disc.
Can anyone help me out?
The specs I have for my drive follow.
SPECIFICATIONS:
(from Device Manager)
TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552D
Can burn to: all CD media, DVD+-R/RW
Came with the computer (store bought computer, before hardware replacements)
If you need any more specs, please don't hesitate to ask.

First step m ight be to clean the filters;

If you are using Nero, a complete uninstall/reinstall might also help.

Trek, I think the drive may be bad. Can you get you hands on a bootable DVD, such as a Vista or Win7 disk and try to boot from it? If the drive won't recognize a bootable DVD and start from it, your drive is defective.

I'll see what I can find.
Also, I tried to see if it would detect one of the DVDs I burned data to a while ago, and it wouldn't detect that either. I'm going to agree that the drive is bad.
If the drive is bad, any recommendations as to a replacement?

By random chance, a tech person was over to fix the other computer where I live, and I had him take a look at my computer. He said that the drive was most likely bad, so I replaced it.
Got a SATA DVD-RAM drive from tiger direct for $30.
So, I can consider this problem resolved.

Did this Tech-person offer to take the 'defective' drive away?
And did that occur?
