have wireless connection want second wired router
I have a linksys wrt54g and a wrtP54g.
The wrtp54g is for a vonage phone.
I'm getting my internet connection through the wrt54g using a wireless connection.
I have the wrtp54g ethernet wire connected to the same computer.
I cant plug the wrtP54g into the wrt54g. They are in different locations.
I tried this before when I had a sprint wireless modem as the internet source.
I used network connections to set it up.
I think there was something about setting up a bridge between the wireless controller and the wired controller.
In network connections when you click on bridge for either of the controllers it says to use a bridge you must use two connections that are not being used by internet connection sharing.
If I try to bridge them it sets up a network bridge, but it disconnects the wireless connection.
Then I didn't know how to get it back so I deleted the bridge and it works ok with just the wireless connection.
If I have to have them not use internet connection sharing how do I do that?
Do I run the network connections and set it up as just a single computer on the network.
Does the system see the sprint modem differently than a wireless router?
I think I forgot something that I did when I had the sprint modem.
Does that sound right?
Will any of this affect another computer that is ethernet wired to the wrt54g? ( not the wrtP54g )

It would be easier if you could post what you are trying to achieve as an end result.
So far, I get you have two routers, both capable of wireless but only one is used.
Are you trying to have one of them repeat the internet signal to the other? In which case you need to do this by setting one of them as a repeater.
Can you draw a diagram of what you want to end up with?

I need the wrt54g as the primary router to connect to the computers.
I need the wrtP54g to get an internet connection to use the vonage phone.
They cant be wired together.

Right, so what do you want to do, connect them together wirelessly?

Yes.
I didn't know I could do that without going through the computer?
Maybe I'm missing something.

Yep you are missing something!
OK here is the question. If you are using the wrtP54g for vonage... do you also have that router acting as your modem for internet?
If not - why not?

Scratch that, neither of those routers will act as a repeater... well one will, but you need to change the firmware completely.
So which one has the internet connection? the Vonage one or the other one?

The other one has the internet connection.
I want the vonage router to get its internet connection via the computer that is getting its wireless internet fron the "other one".
cable internet ---> wireless router ---> computer ----> wired vonage router
When I did this using a sprint wireless modem to get the internet connection,
network setup recognized both the sprint modem and the wired LAN controller in the list of network controllers that could be bridged. ( I think thats what it did. Any way that worked ). When I used the sprint wireless modem I was able to connect the vonage router to use the phone and share the connection with other computers. I'm trying to do the same thing with the cable internet via the wireless modem.
Now it only shows the wired LAN controller but not the wireless connection in the list of controllers that can be bridged.
I think the bridge is the key on how to get this to work. Maybe it wont work with the wireless connection. Perhaps it doesn't see it the same as the sprint modem.
So do you think there is some easy way to get this to work.

OK you are on the right track, but I think maybe you already have your wireless connection shared.
Right click on the wireless connection icon in networking and select properties - do you have internet connection sharing selected?
Which OS is this?

XP Home
Under wireless connection properties
it has
client for microsoft windows
file and printer sharing
QoS Packet scheduler
TCPIP
Do you mean the properties of one of those or something else?

Click on the advanced tab - you should see internet connection sharing in the middle .

The share network connections was not checked.
I checked the box, its not getting network connections as it is now.
I'm having some issues with the vonage router.
It doesn't show up in ipconfig/all
I get media disconnected, so it may be defective.
I'm going to put this on hold for a while.

The router won't show up in ipconfig - only it's address as a gateway or dhcp server.
OK post again when you are ready
