APC UPS questions
hello all,
I have acquired a couple of rack-mount UPSs by APC - each about 7-8 years old. They will not power up at all. I know the batteries are bad. Will these units not power up or beep or anything with bad batteries in them?
I can get the model numbers and other info if needed.

The model numbers are needed.
general troubleshooting here
There is a reset on the back of the unit which may be the culprit

The smaller unit is a SU1000RMNET.
Larger one is a SU1400RMXLNET.
Thank you.

The general troubleshooting pdf to which I have already linked is the only info about power problems with those models. Did you try the reset?

They are designed to run even without batteries in them (I've swapped a few batteries in similar units from APC without the need to power them off).
Try the troubleshooting guide that Noo linked (esp. the reset) if they do not work - either not enough power is going to the unit or it's dead.

Jakkwb, lots of people think techs are a dumping ground for their old used, and useless junk. Could be worse though. A couple of years ago a guy brought me a used monitor and asked if I wanted to buy it. Turned out the monitor didn't work. When I asked him why he thought I'd want to buy a non-functional monitor, his reply was "Well, maybe you can use it for parts."

The 'good news' perhaps is that APC has a 'trade ups' program and will actually 'pay' you for those.
Worth looking into.
