IE7 freezing and add-ons are disabled!

i am tryin to help a friend.. who is having problems w/ his IE7.. it's been freezing up on him.. and he has disabled all his add-ons.. along w/ running scans and checking for viruses.. tried alot of things.. and running out of options..any help would greatly be appreciated.. and I should note again he has disabled all his add-ons!

Bottom right hand side of IE check and see what the zoom level is showing.If anything but 100% set it back to 100%.

Exactly what have they used for scanning?(antivirus,spyware)
What windows?
Why IE7?

he is using Malware anti-malware and ccleaner..and he did have glary ulities (sp).. and avast.. even cleaned his cache and all that in the IE.. and he is using windows xp.. and he well prefers IE7.. and futuretech I'll ask him to try that out.. and see how it goes..

but as an update he restored his comp... says it's ok but it's going slow.. b4 the restoring it.. he installed firefox.. but not to long after that.. he was having problems w/ that also.. idk if that gives u guys anymore 411.. but i'm so at a loss here lol

The trouble with 'restoring' (if you are talking about System Restore) is that, if the Restore Point was made after infection, you just bring it back again.

Internet Explorer is tied so closely to the Windows infrastructure that a problem with Windows frequently translate into IE problems. However, since Firefox has problems too, I'd say that a system infected by malware is the most likely explanation, just like CCT suggests. A scan with Combofix, followed by supplementary scans would certainly be in order.
