Creative Audio PCI 1371 1373 WDM
Hi,
Last night I posted a reply instead of a new thread, sorry.
This is what I posted:
Hi,
I have experianced the pain of the Creative AudioPCI ES1371, ES1373 WDM issue that is everywhere.
Can someone help me PLEASE, I think my brain is melting!
I tried doing the searching myself and every time I think I found what I need it turns out to be just another money pit, UGH!!!!
I went from W98 to XP a few years ago, a buddy did it for me as I'm not too PC savy. He said he did a clean install, not an upgrade. He didn't mention any problems or issues (unless he expected them and was prepared!?!) Anyway, he's gone now and two weekends ago, I decided to reload it because it was just a mess (and I was tired of hearing the little woman complain) and now, guess what....
NO SOUND!!!
I know you're tired of hearing about this issue and it's so old but, please, please help me, she's mad and I'm slow and I'm running out of hiding places!
Sorry for the mix up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Download and run Everest Home (it is free):
http://www.filehippo.com/download_everest_home/
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html
http://www.softpedia.com/progDownloa...oad-16369.html
Once you download it, click on it and let it install and then run it from the icon on your desktop. Click on file, preferences, report and uncheck the 'include debug information in the report' box. People rarely want to see that stuff.
Click on the + sign beside 'Computer', then on 'Summary', then go to the VERY Top of the screen and click on 'report'.
Note: the 'Very Top' isn't one line down, it means what it says.
Cursor over 'quick report-summary' and then click on 'plain text' and then click on 'save to file' and change the 'save in' folder to 'Desktop' and then click 'Save'.
Clear all your open windows and on the Desktop click on that 'report.txt' icon - this will open it in a text editor (probably Notepad) and then copy and paste it to here.
Remember: DO NOT POST ALL THE DEBUG stuff - please read and follow the directions given.

The Intel drivers for that board are here; http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sear...EEA%2fD815EPEA
Since you did an unsupported upgrade to XP, the liklihood is the installer person used the 4041Full.EXE driver package there, since quite often drivers that worked in Win2000 worked on XP.
Good luck.

Well CCT,
I've done everything as you requested but during the driver install, I received errors stating that the following files were not found:
EAPCI2M.ECW
EAPCI4M.ECW
EAPCI8M.ECW
Naturally I did "retry" and also searched for the files manually but they could not be found.
So, still no sound and I'm wondering what you meant by "unsupported" upgrade.
If you're refering to the "Professional". I have never purchased anything but Professional versions for our PC's; W2k Pro for my PC and now XP Pro. I was told long ago that the "Home" versions are usually lacking and problematic.
The wife didn't want W2k when I got them, she wanted what she was comfortable with and used to, W98. Fortunately, I waited to reload mine and did the wifes first, now with these problems, I'm very leary to reload mine as I too have Boston Accoustic 745 speakers.

Unsupported in that the com0oputer you are talking about didn't come with XP and no drivers are offered for that OS from the motherboard maker.
Here ( http://discussions.virtualdr.com/arc.../t-158733.html ) you'll find; "This error results from installing the updated driver file only without installing the waveset files. The Wavesets files are shipped with the orignial installation CD-ROM disk.
They are also available for download at our support site at http://us.creative.com/support/. While at the site select PCI 128. For the Operating System, select Windows 98/98SE, regardless of your current Operating System. Download either the 2MB, 4 MB, or both wavesets.
To load the wavesets, follow the steps below.
Download and unzip if required and copy the extracted file to your C:\Windows\System directory
Select - Start - Settings - Control Panel - System - Device Manager
Double click Sound, Video and Game Controllers
Double click on your soundcard entry and select - Properties - Settings - Load Waveset
Click on Browseand select C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
Select the a waveset file to load, for example, eapci2m.ecw, or eapci4m.ecw.
Click on Apply
Restart your system.".
Creative have at least one of those online; http://support.creative.com/Download...me=eapci2m.ecw

CCT,
I cannot locate the driver area of the site you gave me, could you have given me the wrong link?
The link you gave me opens to a site where I need to select a category so I selected the Sound Blaster Category(I guess!)
Then it wants to know my product!?! (Would that be: Audio Adapter Creative SB PCI128 (Ensoniq ES1371) Sound Card?)
There are a few cards that are listed as PCI but nothing that even remotely matches my card (product) as noted above.
Now what?

I was under the impression that supplying you with the report from Everest would tell you, the pro, all you needed to know to point me to a page that had what I needed on it. What was the point of doing all that?
The last link you gave me works but it leads me to a technical page where I need to drill down through it and then It wants me to open the pc take out the card....do this, do that....
I think I mentioned that I'm not computer savy and opening her PC is the last thing I want to do. If she sees me coming at her PC with tools, there's going to be casulaties.
Can't you just give me the location of what I need like in the many posts I've read here, we've been going back and forth now for days, since Friday! Others have had their issues resolved the next day.
I thought coming here would solve my problem, instead it seems like you're trying to teach me something or run me through the ringer, I'm not sure which.

'I was under the impression that supplying you with the report from Everest would tell you, the pro, all you needed to know to point me to a page that had what I needed on it. What was the point of doing all that?'
The Everest report did indeed identify your motherboard and was instrumental in locating the Intel driver page.
The fact that they never issued drivers for XP for that board makes it difficult to 'point' anywhere other than to try what drivers Intel provide OR go to the Creative site with ALL the data you can obtain about your specific installation and get XP compatible drivers from there.
'I thought coming here would solve my problem, instead it seems like you're trying to teach me something or run me through the ringer, I'm not sure which.'
Not so. I don't have any wish to cause you problems. I am simply trying to help. Sometimes it isn't easy.
If trying all the drivers at the Intel site (there IS a second page) doesn't work, then the PCI 128's at creative would be the logical option. Many people have had issues getting the right drivers for that identified chip.
If a driver(s) doesn't install and work after reboot, uninstall, reboot and try another.
