XP Acting Weird When Disabling Services - Why?

For some reason, whenever I disable a service on my SP3 XP Pro, I get a window saying that I need to be logged in as an admin to disable services. I then pess 'ok'. But, after I restart my computer without logging in as an admin, the service is disabled anyway. Its weird. I got 2 questions:

    1) In the past when I disabled a service, a window NEVER popped up warning me to log in as an admin. Why am I presented with a window now? Do you think I unknowingly did something to my computer for this to happen?

    2) Is this is normal?

You could be in a limited user account. Depending on what you are disabling you may be struggling with an infection. This could explain the disappearing program when you enter admin. Though in a large majority of the cases with infections they generally disable admin settings on the whole pc.

Hi, Niclo Iste, thanks for replying. I ran my anti-virus program and it didnt find any infection. You mentioned that I could be in a limited account. But, Ive never had this problem when disabling services and a pop up window telling me that I need to be logged in as an admin to do so. But again, the services are disabled anyway. Its weird

What do I do about this? How can I stop pop up windows from warning me about this?

Given that you are getting pop ups several things come to mind. One is the question Ferrit asked. The second is are your securities and windows up to date? If not you're going to get limited success with your scans. Thirdly are you using any anti-malware software and if so what is it?

CCT, thanks for the solution! I found that I was disabling services through MSCONFIG in the RUN command and was getting pop up messages that way. I didnt think of disabling services in Administrative Tools>Services. Doing this, however, I got no more pop up messages. Thanks man!
