Woohoo, a DSL tweak that works!
Dont' know if anyone's posted this yet, but this <a href="http://cable-dsl.home.att.net/" target="_blank">tweak </a>really made a difference in my home DSL connection speeds. And I mean noticeable!
Beware though...it's a reg hacking tweak...back your registry up!

yeah Id id this.
The first thing I did when I got my cable modem was to see if there was any tweaks for it. When I used dialup I used every and any tweak for the edge. There are alot of tweaks for the modem. I got my 56k modem's ping from 300 ping to 180 in CS, back in the day with CS beta 5 and beta 6

MTU-SPEED is one I used to tweek the modem
This optimizes the MTU settings for your modem
<a href="http://www.mjs.u-net.com/mtuspeed.htm" target="_blank">http://www.mjs.u-net.com/mtuspeed.htm</a>
If you have a v90 modem make sure you are useing a v90 dialup number, if its a x2 modem make sure you are using a x2 number, k-flex modems are very poor modems they will work on any number but your speeds will be poor. If you dont already have one I would recomend getting a hardware modem. 3com has some very nice ones. You may even want a 3com external one those are very nice.
You will want to make the com ports as fast as you can.
New phone cable, shielded gold plated if you can anything to make the line clear. Get Modem Line Filters.
Heres a little site with eamples of manually editing the modem speeds
