USB to IDE cables
I have Windows XP and a USB to 40pin IDE cable. It works with hard drives but not CD drives. Do these cables not normally work with CD drives? It is only a cheap one.

It should work, however the only time I used a converter like that on a CD-Rom the device was plugged in before I started the computer up.

It works now I've changed the drive to master. The plug is a rather tight fit next to the power plug.
