Obtain inventory list of networked PC's

Hi, I am looking for a tool, preferable free, or even at a very low cost, that can retrieve hardware and software information from PC's on a network. I did find a tool, but it requires a username and password to access each of the PC's. I don't have that information. There is no admin account I can use.. I just started a new job and there is no inventory list, which I am trying to get. There are about 150-200 PC's on the network.

No, I never said I was the admin. I started a new job a week ago, the previous help desk tech doesn't have any kind of inventory list of all the PC's on the network. Also, there is NO domain, no AD. Just a workgroup of PC's on the network. I can browse the network and see a bunch of PC's, but I have no way to identify the hardware/software on these PC's. Is there a network tool I can use that can pull this info I need. Again, these are standalone PC's, not on a domain. Otherwise, I will have to go to each PC and run a tool to get this info. any help would be appreciated.

Spiceworks is free and good.
However a good practice would be to set up an admin account on all computers for easy app deployments and troubleshooting.
And hell a big network w/o a domain??? How do people share files? If you have a server consider setting up a domain - makes things way, way easier...

thanks CeeBee. i've installed Spiceworks but I still won't be able to retrieve the info from all the PC's without an administrator account. I can't believe there is no domain setup either. Looks like I'll have to go to each PC to gather this info. I can use Spiceworks for Help Desk as well since there is no Help Desk software being used to track issues.

Well if you go to each PC you can configure the admin account...

http://www.lookinmypc.com/ Free even for business use. Wont help with your no admin account issue since you kinda need that to install and run on each pc. Belarc Advisor is a better solution in my opinion but it isn't free.
