Windows 7 recovery, can't access drivers
Hi there,
I'm trying to install windows 7 back onto my laptop (i'm using ubuntu at the moment, and i wanna go back to windows).
a friend made me a windows 7 recovery disk, it all goes okay until it says it needs to find the drivers.
I have a Compaq Presario CQ61-416SA Notebook PC, and i've downloaded the drivers from the website, however they are all .exe and when i try to get the windows recovery to read them to install the drivers they just aren't showing up.
what should i do?
which drivers do i need exactly in order to install windows 7 again?
thanks!

Honestly the quickest way to get the drivers is to get the "PROPER" restore disks from Compaq. You would have been prompted to make the restore disks when you first got the laptop and should have at that point. Failing that they can be gotten from Compaq by ordering them.
Another way is to use a device identifier software and manually figure out which one is which and then find the proper drivers for them.

If you prefer not to wait a couple of days to get a set of restore disks, you can load Windows from a disk that matches your original operating system using your product ID, which is on s sticker on the computer.
Honestly I have no idea what your friend was doing when he made you a "recovery" disk, and in spite of good intentions, he may not know what he was doing either. The genuine recovery disks are inexpensive, and ship quickly. But the "same version" clean installation will work also. You just miss out on all the wonderful software bundled with the machine.
