    Cool Diablo II Gaming Problems

I normally don't include gaming issues in my new system warranties. In fact, it states games as an absolute exclusion. But the guy that I sold this computer too is super nice and I wanna help him out. So I have one for all you gaming tech heads out there.

The system is an Athlon 800 on an ASUS K7V mobo, 128mg PC133, 15.3gig WD hard drive, 50 Vintech CD, Voodoo 5500 vid, Xgamer Sound, Creative Modem.

Diablo II installs fine (full install 1500mg) However, when you click on the icon to play, it does absolutely nothing. The task manager shows that its running in the background. Its almost like the registry is running the game but the computer is not!!

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

I encountered the same problem using Nvidia Chipset based graphic card.
    - the movie shown but after main menu loads, clicking on one of the buttons results Blan-Screen -
When i replaced the chipset driver to a new one it worked with no problem.

    Hope it will help you
    P.s. i found the Updated driver @ Blizzard's Web site (http://www.blizzard.com).

I actually ran into a similar issue, except the excesive load times and switching from desktop to actual game were related to a bad cd. Got it replaced no probs since. However when I got the 1.03 patch for B-net it wacked my GL drivers. I had to use the GL drivers for 1.02 to fix my garbled display.
    http://www.diabloii.net is a great resource

I had that problem when I used the bottom video option. Can't remember the exact term. But when I used the top one, worked like a champ. I'm using a Creative Labs TNT2 Ultra. Probably just me not using updated drivers. Just a thought

I had the same problem, The fix I used was I installed an old 4x cdrom and now it is running fine. I still have my 40x cdrom in the system, I don't know if this will work for you but it worked for me.

    Cool

Good call Logan!! Thats exactly what ended up fixing it!! I had installed a 50X Vintech CD Rom Drive in the unit during build up. Come to find out, Vintech CDs have a problem reading the encrypted code from some gaming disk, including Diablo 2.

Thanks for the help gang, mission accomplished!!

As you may know, Diablo 3 will be released in a few months (early 2012). I was not lucky enough to get into the private closed beta. While waiting, I decided to install Diablo 2 ans start playing again. Unfortunatelly, I am getting the same error as WildTech and I am not able to solve it. I found a solution there: diablo 3 skills but the walkthrough does not seem to be working.

Does anyone have another solution than the one posted in this thread.

By the way, sorry for bringing up and old thread but I am really looking forward to solve this problem!

    Any help appreciated!

It would help if you gave the exact link, I don't have time at work to visit everything about that site for Diablo 3. Also we need to know more about your system. What OS, what hardware, and if you installed any patches for the game yet.
