Get it, install it, then go to Steve Gibson's page and test it www.grc.com .
Uninstall it, and install any other (Norton, Black Ice, whatever) and go back to Steve's page and test again.
    ZoneAlarm wins, every time.

hey, thanks for all the prompt replies!! happy to have some good things to tell clients when they're looking for something in security that actually works. The free part ought to put a smile on some sour pusses out there.

    thanks again

you can use it for buisness but you have to pay for it. If I remeber the cost was not that high.

I downloaded Zonealarm this week, and installed it at home. 10 minutes later some git from france was trying to ftp to my pc on some wierd port number! It really does work.! so far it's stopped over 8 attempts.!
also, I downloaded Neotrace, which with an IP address,(or www address) can locate a pc anywhere in the world, and show it's route/path through other servers, and in some cases, even shows a detailed map of the originator.......

now where was that froggy again......

funny, black ice does this and much more, and is 100x easier to setup.
sure it costs money, but you can set it up and never have to worry about icq/real player or any of the likes not being able to get through. it is also good enough to give you the info you need to report them.

I hardly found Black Ice easier to set up. Sure, very simplified, but it absolutely hated my USB network adapter and checking at www.grc.com showed IDENT being left open. A manual edit of the INI file required to close it. ZA on the other hand, works with my adapter and is a no brainer. Hmmm do I want IE to access the internet Y/N... not too difficult. VB E-mail virus, stopped dead by ZA, got to me through a friend running BID!

i think if you want to buy ZA for Business Use it's something like $30. For personal use it's free.

    Thumbs up

Last I checked it was about $19 for business use although it may have gone up. It uses very little resources and it a very compact program. I ran BlackIce for about 6 months but got tired of the bugs, not serious bugs, just annoying, although running BI after it crashed was not an option unless I completely rebooted the system. I give ZA five stars, and none of those stars are because it's FREE.
