We bought Zone Alarm for $19 a copy for a small 4 computer network running on a USB Hub with analog x proxy server and afer I figured out how to set up the proxy to work with it, it ran great. No fear here.. grc.com reported everything as stealth which really screws up my port scanner when I tried to scan the network from a remote location. Great product.

    Question

Does ZA prevent my workstations from accessing my server, I heard it might, if so, should I try the business version?

ZoneAlarm - very cool, does exactly what it says on the tin! Best of all, it's free!!!

Since installing it at home, I have been amazed at the number of attempted penetrations and port scans I've received.

Also, one of our guys has been using ZoneAlarm on his machine on our Novell/NT network with no problems.

    Regards,

    Mark.

I have been running Zone Alarm for a long time. Yesterday I was on IRC and some 6 different computers tried to do a port scan on my and Zone Alarm caught them all, eventhough it almost crashed my system getting over 500+ hits within a 2 min it seemed like. Needless to say the people who had Zone Alarm up decided to retaliate. Since Zone Alarm saves the information we were able to get thier IP numbers and had fun with the ping commands

    Thumbs up

I installed ZA from the info on this post. I must say I love it. I do not know a lot about firewalls, so the easiest and bug free one is what I want. ZA is easy to use and to understand. My wife most recently has discovered Napster. Now if you do not know about Napster, when you download an MP3, it allows other people to have access to your MP3 download directory on you harddrive! This is by default setup with Napster mind you, and there are ways around it. When people would try to get an MP3 from my wife's computer, ZA stoped them dead. It is a great program, and I plan on paying for the full version so I can use it on more than one computer.

    Cool

Zone alarm is an excellent freebie to add to a customer's system. It adds a sense of security and does an excellent job (especially with cable and DSL connections).
Two other recommended programs are webwasher and starteditor. eliminates popups and helps to keep malicious/unwanted programs from starting at boot.

ZDNET has some details on ZA different functions/settings at

Memorize this URL. There will a test in the morning.

i first heard of ZA from a sunday morning talk show on PC's i listen to. (for those of you in the greater LA area KFI 640AM 0900 sunday morning) since hearing about it almost 6 moths ago i dl'd it and gave it a run. I LOVE IT! i have had so much fun with people trying to get in and then turn right around and ping em to death. I liked it so much i archived on my .exe cd. now i included it with all OS or system upgrades to my customers,..... they love it too.

well i remember when i first downloaded zone alarm, one of my ex co-workers bet me $20, that after installing it i would have atleast 3 attempts in a hour time frame. I installed it and 20 minutes later i was $20 poorer. Turned out the guy that was trying to get worked for a isp tech suppost department in philidelphia. Boy was he supprised when we called him on the phone =-)

I still wish i could use linux like nathen did. Took less then 20 minutes to find out exactly who it was comming from.

two thumbs up Im not schitzofrentic..im just siscal and ebert
