Post Sping cleaning - its got cold in here!

Quiet day at the office , bored out my scull today , waiting for a phone engineer to come. So i look under the desk at the trusty P111 , all covered in nicatine and coffee stains,-"why dont you clean that dirty box?" her indoors shouts! Well is that an excuse to rip your box to bits , and maybe connect some lights up again?

The old slot 1 ran at about 84 degrees f/h , and had been sat there with the side cover off for about 2 years. out came the PSU , and (carefully) i took the top off and removed the fan , courtisy of the dogs brush I removed about 1000 ton of nicotine ! and a good brush around the inside case took the other 500 ton out !

Now to get some proper cooling !

a nice big h/sink and fan (486 chopped down) went on the aging 8 meg agp card , the cooler master on the slot 1 got it next , removed it , new heat compound applied (after carefully removing the old crud), cleared all the crap off the fan and heatsink.

then I went in the garage and attacked a couple of 486 AT PSUs, armed with a soldering iron and a 4pin Y piece , one of the fans got epoxied on the bottom of the cage that holds the H/D and the other one went next to the speaker (rear of front panel)

when that lot was soldered up and the airflow direction checked I finaly screwed all the blanking plates back in and put the side back on.

    RESULT:
71 degrees f/h ,,,,,,,,,,and bloody cold feet , under the desk! but its quieter than before.

well that,s it for another 12 months.

Very nice...wish I had as much *****ion, but I figure if I don't clean my system I can use it as an excuse to buy a new one when it eventually grinds to a halt. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">
