I made the same realization the first week he was posting and had utterly useless input on a question I had as well. I haven't seen a post of his since because of that handy ignore feature.

The "sticker code" won't work at all.

Here in the US you:

1. Call the 888-571-2048 or 716-871-2929 phone number that's on the Windows Activation screen.
2. Provide the customer service representative the long "installation ID" (that's on that same screen).
3. Type in the "confirmation ID" that the customer service representative then gives you, into the boxes labeled A thru G.
4. That's it, click the [Next] button.

Yes, THAT one. I have done it countless times...
In this particular instance I reset the activation, re-entered the key from the sticker (and it took it) but it refused to activate claiming the copy wasn't genuine. MS was totally unwilling to help unless I paid $99.
