I think considering the other posts you have made about your IE not remembering your login and pass.
That your install is corrupt and needs reloading. Now I realize you tested the harddrive with check disk.
And it came back as ok, I would test the harddrive with the manufacturers diagnostic software and
as well then test the memory on this system.
In the end likely you need to reload your operating system.

It's not the computers that keep having problems, it's the users!!

For 64 bit systems you can download the XP x64 drivers from here, then unzip the files into a new folder. Next go to the Devices and Printers folder, Add a Printer, select the proper port, then select "Have a Disk" and point to the folder where you unzipped the files
I will assume that the 32 bit are the same
Now this being said and from what I can see thats a plotter is it not?
It will be whatever other software you use as well that could be of issue

Actually, if you are thinking about an OS update, I'd do Windows 8. It really won't be more painful than upgrading to Windows 7, and it runs a whole lot faster than 7 on older hardware. Honestly, most of the bad press that Win8 gets is from lazy writers who focus solely on the Metro interface, and ignore the fact that most PC users will spend most of their time in Desktop mode, and that isn't changed all that much from Win7. Most apps that run under XP are OK in 7 and 8 as well, but there are going to be some exceptions. IMHO, Windows 7 and 8 came out of the gate with the most comprehensive printer support, and general device support, of any Windows version to date.

Microsoft.com > Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor
(Note: If it says the system is capable of running Windows 7, it can also run Windows 8).

I see no issue with that system running 7 or 8.
I would advise a couple upgrades though to both
speed it up and to make sure you keep your data safe.
I would double the ram and add in a SSD harddrive.
Number one reason is you could just leave the XP
harddrive intact while you install 7 or 8 and get it
up and running and all the drivers installed. That
way you always have the xp install to fall back to.
Then when you get the new windows 7 or 8 install done
to your likeing you can get rid of the XP old one
Just my 2 cents

HP's pl532en driver supports virtually all models of DesignJets under Win7, and HP support says it works with Win8 too, but I haven't had an occasion to verify that.

I wouldn't trust Mcrappeee to tell me the truth about anything.
I would install Malwarebytes and update and scan completely with a deep scan.
I would also do a few online scans just to see if there is anything.

Download , install , and run Cobofix. Multiple times. Always reboot between runs. Then run Microsoft Security Essentials. Then run Malwarebytes.
