Win 8 pc won't boot and I want the data
How is everyone getting the data off a win 8 machine to restore it once you reinstall win8?
Apparently you can't just hook it up and get the data.

I dont know what you are doing that you cannot get the data off cause i just
loaded a hard drive with win 8 pro and then i took it and connected it to the
system I am on now and I am able to access the libraries and get the data off without issue.
So this leads me to 2 very very pertinent questions.
1: exactly what was it that crashed such a new system?
2: was it infected by the cryptolocker virus?

The drive was in some sort of protected mode, darned if I can remember now what it was, and it wouldn't let me access it by attaching it to another pc. I have seen this twice now with win 8 machines. Not sure what crashed it but it would only show a white screen. Hardware tested fine.
Ahh found it (gpt protected)
IC my shop machines are all xp so it appears that I may need to upgrade to win7 on at least one of them.

GPT works in windows as long as you have a UEFI bios.
