Post Restart Windows using SHIFT

    Windows 98/95

You can reduce the time it takes for Windows to restart by holding down the SHIFT key while you select 'Shutdown'. This will restart Windows only, and not your whole computer.

Not always true - some systems (have never determined if it is a hardware issue or windows issue) will just lock up when try thay. Rather, it will freeze at 'windows is now shutting down' ..

    Yes, Ctrl+Alt+Del

then hold down Ctrl while clicking Shutdown

More steps but much faster shutdown time

or the fastest way of all... unplug the damn thing!

If anyone wants to try Start > Shut Down and then holding down Ctrl while clicking OK, be my guest but I'm in the middle of a few things so i don't wanna try it

I noticed that my PC shuts down fastest from just hitting the power button. And NO it doesn't just power off, if says "shutting down" takes about 2 secs instead of the usual 5-10

think you need a compatible mobo/case though..

On most systems you can shutdown to DOS, which is pritty quick. Then type exit to reload windows.

This way, windows isnt totally removed from memory and makes a reboot quick.

Some systems though will do an entire reboot to enter DOS, and/or entire reboot to exit DOS.
