I.Explorer: Disable Browsing

Hi Folks:
does any1 know how to disable the browsing from Internet Explorer? I mean, you can still lounch IE, but the only page you can visit is the Home Page.
Can anybody help me with this??

The problem is that I want to prevent my users from surfing the web. They are only allowed to visit the home page. How can I do this? <IMG SRC="smilies/rolleyes.gif" border="0">

How about saving the home page for offline viewing and having the computer not connected to the internet? Or having the home page on the hard drive/a floppy and opening it in I.E., again without the computer being connected to the internet?

The thing is that the home page I am talking about gets constantly updated. Also, it's a web site they need to use to meke inquiry and insert data, so That won't work for me. But Thank You anyway.

Can you use Wildcards in the HOSTS files? If so, just point * to your web server.

You may have to look into a firewall solution to restrict access to sites while allowing others to be loaded.

I'm assuming that this "home" page is not part of an Intranet, right?

No it's not.
No firewall.
Just Win98 + I.Explorer.
With this, is there any way a user can have access to just 1 web site?

There is a file in Windows that you can manually specify the IP number for specific sites. In NT/2000, it's C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\hosts, in 9x, it's C:\Windows\hosts.sam

I'm not sure if you can use wildcards, but if you can, then you could just force Windows to associate any and all addresses with the IP number of your web server. Then even if someone types in www.hardcoreporno.com, they'll still get your web server.

Why do they have internet connection if they don't have permission to use it??? Isn't that a big waste of $???

If they go through a proxy or router over broadband then maybe the proxy or router will allow you to do blocking of all but certain IP addresses.

If they dial up you don't block squat unless you get a 3rd party software soloution. Dunno, maybe zone alarm (firewall) will do it. You can set it to block some places and not others.

You set up an intranet site. Things like stupid bosses who don't want to let employees surf the net but still pay for it are why we have intranet sites.

Here is another idea:

Remove the address bar, toolbar and the status bar and everything from favorites. Most users have no idea how to get them back and it's pretty hard to navigate without them.
