RAID Help

OK I tried to install a RAID 0 array in my system (Athlon XP 1700+, 256MB DDR, 2x 40GB ATA/100 drives, ATI All-In-Wonder 8500DV) because this system is slow as sh!t, last time it took me days to finally be able to get setup to run, and when it finally did run, once it was done I got blue stop error like "Inaccessible boot device" and I did press F6 and it installed the drivers from the floppy.

I have an MSI K7T266 Pro2-RU motherboard with built in RAID, I'd like to knwo if it's possible to use the RAID controller with only 1 hard drive so I won't have to loose 30 hours backing up my current hard drive for nothing if it doesn't work.

Can the RAID controller be used with a single drive just so I can test if Windows will install properly using the RAID controller?

Okay, let's get a few things straight

any RAID setup requires at least 2 drives but usually onboard RAID IDE controllers allow operation as IDE controllers.

However you need to remeber that once you brake a RAID arrray there's no simple way of getting your data back.

I'm not sure exactly what problem you have with your RAID 0 setup and why it's not working well for you. However, I can offer one tip - do not use the "cable select" mode and designate your HDDs as either masters or slaves.

When I had a raid o setup both drives were set at master and on seperate ide cables, one drive per controller
Make sure your define your array in the bios setup screen, or define those controllers as standard ide controllers, check your mother board s manual on how to do this
I was using a promise raid controller card so my set up will differ from the onboard raid setups

Every IDE RAID controller I've had since the Promise 66 was junk.
