Cool What on earth is that smell.

About two months ago at work there was the most horrific odour in our office. The kind of gut wrenching stink that could make you run for the porcelain telephone to call Ruth and God.

After a couple of days we brought in contractors to trace and eliminate the problem they searched top to bottom, drains and basement then left utterly bewildered.
With only air con and no windows for security reasons it soon spread over two of the five floors of the office.

About a week after this started I received a mail asking me to go and fix a machine. I went to check it out and decided to take out a few components. I moved the tower unit from under the desk, a plastic bag was resting behind it on a pipe, as I moved the case it fell and split open. We all scattered, about a dozen lads heading for the great outdoors.

The programmer in question had been working late on a project just over a month before. If we work past 7pm our company will pay for food. He had gone a bit mad and ordered southern fried chicken and a couple of take-away mixed kebabs. Well over faced he wasted loads then tied up the bag. Best guess was that it fell from the edge of the desk behind his machine where it rotted until I disturbed it and it spilled out onto the floor...

I was pretty green faced and not a happy tech. Not surprisingly we got the contractors back in and they spent the night getting rid of the smell.

Red face

Reminds me of The Stinky Meat Project. They did a little experimant with rotting meat. By the end they were gagging from the smell when they got close enough to take photos.

Believe it or not, I read through the Stinkymeat project while eating a plate of Kung Pao Beef and fried rice. Yum!

I almost feel guilty for sending that link around the office at lunch time...

I was working on a mchine that I thought smelled really bad. I took the cover off to see if I could find the cause of the smell. No luck, I then realised it was my feet...

You're welcome. I loved that site as well. The "Stinky Meat" guy is doing a follow-up right now. I think he's on day 11 of The Stinky Feet Project. He's trying to give himself athlete's foot. I guess that goes along with the other stinky feet post.
