Holy S$%t, AAAAHHHHHH
<RANT>
I am pissed beyond pisstivity! This stupid stupid man is well.....stupid. I have been trouble shooting this NETWORK admins portable computer for an hour because of no dail tone. The slot works fine or we would have not gotten as far as the dail-tone. The card works fine because we tried another card and same issue, we also swapped HDD and everything worked fine. So I am like crap now I have to go hunting in windows 95 for the problem. I start tearing down the driver database, resolving conflicts, testing , and updating the OS and this-that-and-the-other. Well after an hour he says "Oh, I forgot to tell you that before I called I noticed the right driver wasn't loaded ". ................. ..... Yes I should have checked that first, but you don't put your brain in neutral when you call tech support. We add our knowledge to yours and come up with an answer/solution/or kiss your butt and tell you not supported. If it was technical resolutions of the sort most people expect, I would be an in house tech and all you would have to do is tell me what's up and I come out and fix it. Anyways to get back on the story I get mental migit over here to load the driver and presto the dang card works! I am some what to blame, but damn man! If your an admin or techie of some sort and noticed that the driver was wrong wouldn't you atleast say something. I mean you at least saw that the wrong driver was loaded wouldn't dawn on you that it might be the issue and if you don't know how to load a freaking driver then ask us how!!!! I am so mad I actually kicked my desk. I never have been this mad or resorted to damaging furnature but he mad me so angry!

I have learned the hard and painful way to NEVER assume anybody else knows what they are doing. Unless it's DriverGuy himself, you still check to see if it's plugged in and turned on.

Yeah I have to take some of the fault on this one, I should have started with the basics. I also ask them to describe in detail what the issue is and what troubleshooting they did. Now I should have noticed right off the bat that he did not check the driver, but he should have also told me that he did some trouble shooting instead of saying no.

When I started reading, I expected to see, "the damn phone jack was dead" or something to that effect....sorry we all have brain farts once in a while--I wouldn't even assume DriverGuy was right! I always check device manager and drivers first.

Yup been there b4, Its a sad day when you have to start treating techs or programmers like normal users. Heres a list of calls I've done for fellow computer tech people in the last TWO weeks.
Load printer driver - D'UH
Cant log into the network cause theres another username in the box - Click on the username box and type your own username.
Cant use the modem at home cause the cable doesnt fit in the wall socket - Yup right on this one, your using a PCMCIA LANcard and RJ-45 cable, not a modem. [He then said I told him I could use a PCMCIA Lan card to dial in from home....Sure I did NOT]
I need to uses a WinNT 4 system and the partion MUST be FAT32, I dont want use use FAT16 or NTFS - !!!!!!!!! NO !!!!!!!!!

If anyone can give some of these people a good home please drop me a e-mail, I'll be only too happy to post them to you.

i worked at a mufler brake shop had this guy come in and say there was a vibration in the front end how bout an estimate take him and his truck for a ride the whole time he ignorant and silent when asking him questions
on this so we where intown a few miles from the interstate and trying to find this vibration i finally asked a question how fast do you have to be going to fell this
a he goes much faster then we are going right now about 70 or 80 miles an hour
i wanted to kill him any way we got it up on the lift the tire had a nail in it and had bent chords needed a ton of parts in the front end
any way what i told him was the same as i tell people with computer problems
i tell them this right after the question what is it youre doing when the computer has this problem and i get the funny face they all make
treat them like children here with the
if you go to the doctor and say it hurts
you have to tell him what hurts and where it hurts or he will not know where or when it hurts and if they act like children treat them as such with remarks like com on you can tell me
if you tell me ill bawow/ up a bawoon for you
blow baloon

I've been doing this too long -- I don't even trust MYSELF if there is a problem - I always check the stupid stuff first!
In my Navy electronics course, the first troubleshooting exercise we had was repairing a dead unit - everyone in the class spent at least 15 min trying to locate the problem - the fuse was removed from the fuse holder in the front cover! It got the point across - always check the simple stuff first, it'll bite you in the a$$ sooner or later if you don't!
Every time I forget that, it does bite me -- I'm running out of tailbone!!
