Question for everyone whose company does outsourcing (for lack of a better term...)
This is one that I was thinking about the other day...
The company I work for is a pretty well established company. They have outsourced themselves to major businesses to provide for their IT needs. I am working out at one of their two huge accounts. This one I am at is a "health care institute" and we have had this contract for 5 years. During those 5 years they have given us more and more responsibilities and duties each time. My company is proving to be a huge asset out there. Here is where it gets interesting...
They have an IT staff there and we are doing the job better and more efficient than they do. There is an animosity that alot of them show towards us. Dont get me wrong, there are alot of good people in that IT department.... BUT.... there are alot of lazy a$$ idiots there too. I noticed one help desk ticket that came to us where the first guy didnt do nothing to it for two days, passed it on to another guy (who has been known to come into work at 9 or 10 am and leave at 2pm) and that guy sat on it for two days before he passed it on to us. And once we get out there, we receive the backlash... "Its about time you got out here. I put this ticket in a week ago." AND it was something that we fixed in an hour.
Now... here is the question.
How many of you guys are in similar work situations and notice this from the main IT staff?
If it aint broke, TWEAK it!

I have a similar situation that is not IT, though. I worked as a temp through an agency in a government mailroom... there were three of us working with one supervisor and one unionized employee. The union emp. was the extra anchor on the boat, she was worse than useless, called in sick regularly, took 1/2 hour breaks, was late often, left early often, and there were several jobs she refused to do for "health" reasons. Us temps BUSTED our HUMPS to get an amazing amount of work done and got paid HALF what the union girl did, plus no benefits or security.
The only thing that did anything for my soul was our supervisor was also union and she was a real worker, she got right in there beside us and threw her back into it. Otherwise, I would still hate the entire memory of the experience instead of just this one lazy chick who was too well protected by her union to be cut loose.

I noticed you said "worked" in the past tense. Good thing you left before all the Amthrax scare. Or is that the reason you left?

I am in exactly the opposite situation. I work in the IT area for a fortune 50 company and we have outsourced our IT suppport and project management to a large computer company (I am not naming names, but they make my lappy - see below). They send us the worst techs sometimes. I end up having to show them how to fix sh!t on their own equipment most of the time. Fortunately, they have retained our former vendor as a sub during the transition. I hope they keep them on for good because I have spent years developing a good working relationship with the old vendor. I understand their role and they understand mine, if you know what I mean. Not to mention the old vendor requires all of their techs to be A+ or MCP minumun with at least 5 years exp.
