Question Abit BE-6 II Processor setting won't hold after complete power off

I have a Abit BE-6 II motherboard with a Pentium III-500 processor (slot 1) that is freaking me out. If you cut the power off with the switch at the back of the case, that cuts all power off, or unplug the PC and then plug it back in and boot up, the processor setting in the bios is changed, usually to something lower, like 300. I have changed the CMOS battery already; reset the bios to default and reconfigured everything. The system works fine as long as you don't unplug it or turn off the master switch. The mother board has the latest bios already. Is the motherboard defective? What is causing this and how can I fix it?

    Thanks in advance.
