    Question

PIRACY ? HA LIKE MICROSOFT REALLY CARES ABOUT
    IT UNLESS IT'S OVER A MILLION $ . NOT!!!!
I FORMALLY WORKED FOR A COMPANY THAT WAS SELLING MS PRODUCTS THAT WERE CONFIRMED PIRATED COPIES (BY MS THEMSELVES)AND AFTER
PURSUEING MS TO TAKE ACION FOR OVER 8 MONTHS
THEY FINALLY CAME BACK AND SAID "WE DONT HAVE
ANY INTREST IN THIS CASE BECAUSE THE DOLAR AMOUNT IS FAR BELOW A MILLION ! " , SO IS IT
OK FOR THE PUBLIC TO "USE COPIES FOR THIER PERSONAL NEEDS OR ARCHIVE COPIES OF CD'S? NOT BY LAW BUT BUT WHY TIE THE END CONSUMER DOWN
WHEN MS DOESN'T CARE ABOUT IT UNTILL A MILLION , LOST SALES ? NO , THE END USER CANT BUY THE OS UNLESS IT'S W/HDD,BOARD+CHIP OR SYSTEM ANYWAY (EXCEPT UPGRADE BAND-AIDS)SO WHY NOT GIVE THE CONSUMER WHAT THEY PAID FOR?
SMALL AND MEDIUM BUSINESSES THAT HURT THE TRADE BY LOW LEVEL PIRACY HAVE LITTLE FEAR OF
PROSECUTION UNTILL A MILLION SO WHY MAKE CONSUMERS PAY WHEN BILL'S PIRACY TEAM WHEN PRESENTED WITH EVIDENCE DOESNT HAVE TIME OR RESOURCES TO PURSUE IT ? CONFUSSED ? WHY BILL?

I agree with the viewpoint that M$ should not force people into using an almost entirely useless restore CD. However, I think that the REAL problem here is the big computer retailers (be they online or bricks and mortar it does not matter). They have made the internet and computer usage in general so dumbed down that anyone with two brain cells to rub together can can put together a PC and start surfing.

It started with color coded mouse and keyboard connections and now it's come to this. If you think I'm wrong just try to find anything on your favorite search engine and see how many shopping, and service oriented sites come up instead of the relevant information that used to be just a boolean search away!

That on top of what ever problems made you call them in the first place? I think not.

MS don't give support for any OEM-Licensed software anyways. All support is the responsibility of the system manufacturer, so calling them is going to be useless anyway!

All you guys are bitchin about the topic rather than giving an answer to the problem such as burning the cabs directory onto a cd and include the setup.exe files.
Then the cd is not bios locked and you can format and do all the things you wish to do.
It's that easy possibly against the law though. but this does seem to work on the machines my company sells.
If you can check the "C" drive and see if there is a cabs directory copy it and it should work great.

Who cares where MS wants you to put it. I have all mine in a folder in an offsite safe. I'll start putting stickers where MS suggests when i don't have to upgrade the thing every year with a new OS release or service pack to fix security errors.

Fact of the matter is. You are allowed by US law to make 1 backup copy of any peice of software you own. The creation of a CD that cannot be copied violates US federal law.

    Cool

Given that the Microsoft Windows license is like buying a car then finding out you don't actually own the physical car but rather the right to drive it, their policy of not including the Windows 98 CD seems fair to me. I buy licenses for bigger customers all the time and they don't include the CD, just a piece of paper. I do this because it saves my bigger clients 20-30.00 a system when they have many systems versus the extra money for having a Windows CD for each system.
