HELP!!!Computer sounds like Mad Cow Dying!
I get a call from a business that I have been to many times before, it's an office full of women that know nothing at all about computers.
"Bryan, you have to come out here and help me, my computer is making a sound like a MAD COW DYING! And I am afraid that I am going to lose everything." Now whenever we get a call from a customer with a "problem" like this, we asaume that they are slightly embellishing, so i figured the HDD might have been bad and was making a weird noise, but non that compared to a Cow foaming at the mouth.
So I showed up and sat down at the computer and listened, and hear nothing, so I opened a few programs just to get the HDD working, and still, no sound. I asked the other ladies in the office if the sound only happen when you do a certian thing or what... They just told me to sit there and wait. About one minute later a horribe sound (which, seriously, could be described as a dying cows last moo) eminates from the computer. It lasted for about 5 sec then stoped. Now the first thing I see is a UPS sitting on top of the computer which is located under a desk. So I take the UPS off the the top of the computer, and set it down on the floor. I also pull the computer out from under the desk and seperate the two. So agian I waited for this sound and about 3 or 4 mins. later I heard it agian and figured that it wasn't coming from the UPS. So now I concentrate on the computer and wait agian, and almost like clock work the sound occurs, and I hear it coming from the back of the computer, so i quickly poke my head behind it to look. nothing looks out of the ordinary, so I am now just looking all over the computer for anything foreign sitting on the motherboard so agian like clock work the sound occurs agian only now it sounds like it is coming for above me, so I look up and I see a draw above me and above where the computer was sitting. So I open the drawer and all I see are a bunch of floders and think nothing of it. Well the sound came from that area agian so I opened the top drawer and thats when I saw a pager set for vibrate going off. After I recovered from laughing so hard, I got up to tell the lady the news. She wasn't there, so I found her supervisor and anyone else I could in office and had all I in a big circle around me and informed them to my recent discovery. When they stopped laughing, I asked the supervisor if she would sign my invoice for our min. charge of $95, so I could get back to the shop and tell this wonderful story to my co workers.

A buddy of mine put his pager in his backpack next to some paper, and it too was left in vibrate mode. Well, early one Sunday morning, about 2:00 am in the morning, it starts to go off. Well he woke up to the sound of a buzzing, and he had no idea what the heck it was. He searched his whole house, tore the whole apart but couldn't find what the buzzing was. So later that day he goes to a party, was telling his friend about it, and this friends daughter overheard the conversation, and within seconds asks him if he has a pager....he was so dumbfounded cuz he remembered he put it in his backpack. As soon as he got home, sure enough it was the pager rustling the papers making a buzzing sound. Funny stories.

It's a simple thing tho.
I had something like this happen to me one night.
I just fell asleep... And I heard a rattling at my window. It would go for about 5 secs than stop... Every two minutes... It was really freaking me out. I seen how the timing was so good. So I turned on my light... looked around my room and waited for 2 mins... And BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. The Damn pager was on my desk next too the window in a pile of change vibrating like a bastard.
Funny how the simple things can really annoy

LOL, I do this every weekend. My pager for work is set to automatically come on at 8:20 in the morning. Saturday morning comes around with me drunk and asleep, and my pager freaks me out, because of the auto-on vibration. That's scared the crap out of my more than a few times.

Not a pager story, but last week I lost the works phone. We have a portable phone which is used when we are away from our desk.
Anyway I was upgrading some computers at the other end of the building, left the phone under the counter. The phone was then handed in as lost property, I even had to go and sign for it to get it back....
To my credit, I've never forgotten the phone since.....
