things to do while doing a full install of win98
where i work, i cant go ghosts of win98 onto new HDD (bleh). so i have to site behind the computer and watch as win98 slowly installs itself. so i started to play with what is given to me on the screen, and i learned a few things.
when detecting hardware..there is a lil rectangular box...right? right..it will never line up flush on the right or left edges. try lining it up with the darker box where "time remaining" sits. it will either overlap, or leave the smallest gap. secondly, when your system finally reboots to the win98 gui (without video drivers installed) the hourglass fits perfectly into the carat next to "next."
just some stuff to think about/fool around with if ya ever get bored while doing a full install of win98.

HOLY SCHNIKIES! You do all that while Win98 is installing???? I'm afraid to make loud noises or any sudden movements during an install...

Also, if you hold down the enter key when windows is dialing the little red dot will go back and forth between the two little computers at light speed!

Must be nice to have time to sit and watch Windows install. Here, we start the install, go to something else and periodically check back to hit enter or put a OEM# in.
The boss does not take to kindly to people sitting and watching windows copy files, watching scandisk or defrag run. His quote is "Will that defrag faster with you watching? If you've got time to watch, you got time to do something else!"

WHERE DO YOU WANT TO GO TODAY?......Not that it matters, because Microsoft will crash on the way there!!!

That is so funny! In the four years I've been a tech I've never just watched an installation. My boss(es) would have punted my butt all over the store. One to the things I've done is get a HDD setup with an OS, bare bones, configured for the main systems you sell and the EZDrive it over to another drive when needed. Saves me loads of time...(I guess ghost or drive image would work to). I do use drive image now that I work in a 500 plus user office. Saves my life.

well its not exactly all of my fault. first of all, he doesnt get that much business. secondly, he doesnt like when i ghost win98 onto a newly built system. i tried to show him,b tu he doesnt like it. so if he wants to pay me to watch a win98 install, its fine by me.
