Death of a loved one!!! WTF?????
A couple of months ago, had a customer call regarding that Annie was sick and needed help.
I asked who Annie was.
Turned out Annie was a PIII 700 HP tower.
It wasn't turning on.
The guy brought it in all panicky.
He wanted to see what we would be doing, but I told him he had to stay in the store area while I took his precious Annie to the service area.
Turned out the p.s. was blown.
I tried a store stock 300 watt p.s.
Nothing.
Started testing out the parts one by one.
HD, Cdrom, mb, ram, modem, p.s. were all bad.
Fd, processor and nic were the only working parts.
When the p.s. went, it took other parts with it.
As far as repairing it, I could, but charging for new parts + labour to get it all working again would be more expensive than buying a new system.
How was I to explain this to this person???
I told him Annie had gone to a better place.
Bad choice of words.
He wasn't happy and more frantic than ever, causing a scene. The manager and I had to take him into one of the sales offices and shut the door to calm him down.
We finally were able to calm him down and sort things out.
We thought this guy was a little nuts, but that wasn't the case.
Turns out he had a wife named Annie and she passed away from health problems very recently.
He started calling his computer Annie, because his deceased wife actually bought him that hp computer as a birthday gift about a 1 year and a 1/2 ago.
I guess that computer reminded him out how sweet and generous his wife really was.
Feeling sorry for the poor guy, we ended up repairing his tower buy selling him the replacement parts for near cost and charged very little labor. He was very Happy.
He says Annie say thankful too, both in spirit and as a computer.
Strange, but true!!!
I think that guy needs some help in dealing with the passing of his wife.
Both He and ANNIE (the hp) are happy for now.

I have an aunt who names all of her PCs like they were her kids. She would get upset with me when she called to say that "George is sick" or "Howard is sick" and I didn't remember which computer she was talking about. She wanted me to come do "surgery."

So far so good!!!
He's actually passed by the store a couple of times since then to buy a printer and new scanner, and no, he didn't get them at cost this time.
He's very happy and recommending us to all his buddies!!!
