Squirrel Urine Kills Computer
True story, names changed to protect the innocent:
Lady comes into the large retail store that I work at with a laptop, tears pooling in the corners of her eyes. She sets it down and proceeds to regale me with the story.
She works at a private school and, as it's been unseasonably hot here in the Springs and the building she was in didn't have air conditioning, she opened a window while doing some work on her laptop.
So, she gets up to go to the bathroom, leaving the donuts that she'd bought earlier sitting next to her system. She comes back five minutes later to see one of natures furry friends sitting on her laptop keyboard, powdered donut in its fuzzy little paws. She shrieks and makes shooing motions at the intrepid invader. This literally scares the p*ss out of it. Right onto (and into) her keyboard.
She shut the system down and cleaned it up as well as she could, but upon trying to reboot, it wouldn't POST. Not even a POST beep. Nada.
I sat listening to her story, at first not believing it, but she was completely serious. I've still got it on my bench (she came in just as we were closing). I'm thinking that since this happened almost a week ago that any liquids inside will have dried up by now and hopefully I can get it going for her. I've been a tech for about 8 years now, this is the first time that animal pee has ever come into the situation.
Perseverance in all matters.

That story is hilarious! I mean I feel for the lady and her laptop, but that story definately made my day! You must have been trying so hard not to laugh at her while she was telling you the story.

I've seen animal .. uh.. waste, kill a few systems.
Quite a few actually.
It is a most, most, most horrid smell, and if I ever have to do it again, I would sooner throw the entire system out, than replace the broken parts.

Cats love to fall asleep on video recorders... and pee in them. Spent many a day washing boards from vcr's and letting them dry for a week!
They usually survive, but if you don't wash them as soon as the board heats up the smell ewwww, and it just don't go away untill you do wash the board.

Same way as my father dropped his $500 glasses from 35,000 feet in an aeroplane.... you put it in your shirt pocket and then lean over to push the flush button, the second the flush happens the phone or glasses slither out of your shirt pocket and freefall down the pan, in my father's case his glasses freefell down the loo and out through the ejection system somewhere over the atlantic.

Leave it in your pocket and the slim little phone is going to fall out.. I have a bluetooth unit that (headset) is prone to nearly doing that a lot as well, I'm paranoid about it now :-P
My site has a NEC PABX that has a mouse piss on the CPU on the controler boad once... cost us a fortune to replace..
"The fact that I think Bach was mistaken doesn't alter the fact that I think the B-minor Mass is one of the greatest pinnacles of human achievement. It still absolutely moves me to tears to hear it. I find the whole business of religion profoundly interesting. But it does mystify me that otherwise intelligent people take it seriously" - Douglas Adams
