Need Your Help: MoBo temp > CPU temp !!!
Well I recently upgraded my MoBo to an ASUS CUSL2-C.The problem is that in the BIOS i have a really high "system temperature" near 50oC something i 've never experienced before. In my past two MoBos (ABIT BH6,BE6II)the system temp was nearly 20oC under the CPU temp (50 to 30)and i expect the same to happen now.At the moment i got 52oC system temp while the CPU temp is at 49oC.Is that normal-can it happen?I got a lot of cards on the MoBo (VGA,Sound,SCSI,TV tuner,NIC) but these were here before, and as far as i know except the VGA (GeForce 2MX) the other do not produce that much heat.I 've heard other people complaining too about that kind of "problem" and i still don't have the answer. Also i upgraded the MoBo's BIOS in case there was a bug,but the "temp thing" remained.Right now i 've disabled the system temp alarm from the BIOS otherwise i couldn't boot!!! Please give me a tip here.My thanks in advance.

Could be one of 2 things
- You are overclocking which would make a difference in temperature all round.
- The Asus boards do tend to report temperatures higher than what they really are.
Do your own test with a thermal probe or thermometer and see if it reports the same as the BIOS.
And Sowulo was perfectly correct in mentioning about the thermal paste and reseating of HSF as incorrect CPU cooling cna make a big difference to system temperature as the HSF isn't taking the heat away from the CPU properly.
How much Arctic Silver did you use?
49C isn't that high really for an overclocked CPU. My T-Bird 1Ghz non-overclocked runs at 44C at the moment idling due to the temperature of the room.
If anything though it looks like a faulty System temperature sensor on the MoBo.

You won't believe this! Last night i kept on surfing the web in case i find something on this.Well i was really curious by the fact i read so many SB Live problems on this MoBo.After i installed the PC-TV card i noticed a slowdown in performance-checked the IRQs,Memory adresses, found that the SB Live was on an IRQ with most of my other devices (previously on PCI #1).I then changed its PCI position (now on PCI #3) and not only my PC's performance got much better but the "System Temp" problem dissapeared!!!
The only problem now is that i can no restart the PC-keeps on hanging, shutdowns properly though-on which i am gonna experiment a bit.Anyway thx a lot guys for replying, keep up the good work
