    Angry RTFM

    RTFM RTFM RTFM RTFM ARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
My whole day today has been working off and on trying to get a guy who is knowledgable about computer systems, who is good in unix, who works at a LARGE software company and SHOULD know the basics of how to do stuff, to hook up to our VPN. We have written instructions that are 3/4 of a page long and AUTOMATED 98% of the dang process for the client install. All he has to do are follow the stupid freaking directions, which spell out, step by step, how to do this. Including the step to call us and have his VPN request approved BEFORE proceeding to setup connections... How can you correctly setup a secure connection, when you don't have a security request approval??? But no, we'll do everything, maybe glance at the instructions, and then call when we've done everything else... WTF RTFMRTFM!!! Please... spare me before I shoot someone... My firm belief is that all people who know they know everything should be shot on the spot. I have been working in this field for 5+ yrs professionally, 5 yrs b4 that as a hobby. I don't know squat. There are always things coming up I don't know. Everyday I learn something new. I know enough to make your average bench tech's head spin. BUT I don't know everything... If I have never done something before, I RTFM. Period. What's so hard about that? Please, if you are a install anything, spare your own life, RTFM before you install something you don't know how to do, cuz if you call me, and you have an unopened copy of the manual, I will hunt you down and remove your eyeballs so you have a reason not to RTFM... Unless it's your own system, then feel free, just don't call me... Sorry for the rant... But I think some people should have those 4 little letters tattooed forever in neon flourescent green on the underside of their eyelids... Actually, make it on the cornea... so they always see it. It's been a long week.

I would like to use a staple gun and staple the manual the their foreheads. It's been a long week. I was popping in a new 800mhz P!!! last night in my home PC and I looked at the manual sitting there in it's platic bag, I never opened it. But ya know what, The first time I installed a processor, I read the manual cover to cover sucking the info up like a sponge. Nobody walked my sorry *** through it.......

If I had a nickel for every time I went to work on someone's machine and asked them where their manuals/Windows CD/paperwork that came with their machine is and they either say "Oh I need that stuff? I don't even know where it is!" or pull out a little box of everything still neatly shrink wrapped...
That or when I ask them what kind of processor/how much RAM/what video or sound card they have..."I dunno"

ROFL! I've had that one several times. Mostly to the tune of: "Aww hell, I didn't need all that paperwork sh*t anyway, so I just tossed it!"
    The CDs too?
"Yeah, I never used 'em, so why should I keep 'em?"
Well, technically you don't need to keep them, but legally, you now have to buy Windows and Office again b/c you don't have a CD or a License for them.
"WHAT?!?! But I've got the computer! And it had them on there!"
    Prove it.
(Meanwhile, his wife looks at him with that "I told you so, you freakin' idiot" look.)

hehehheheh... I have no sympathy for stupidity.
