my screws were loose on every one of these days
First, i was upgrading my bios on my Tyan Tomcat IV (dual processor intel 233mmx) so i could use my new LS120 drive. 1) forgot the updated file name so i tried to wing it. $80 new cmos chip;
Second, a customer wanted a new 10gb harddrive installed. I hooked it up. Since his existing harddrive had 2 partitions on it already i formatted the E: drive, only to find out that it was the D: drive that was the new harddrive. Still trying to figure out why it doesnt name them in seqential order;
Third, all i need to say: screw fell from harddrive mount, down on memory chip while running;
Fourth, forgot the computer was off when i pulled the 56K modem that was being used out;
Fifth, forgot to screw in a network card, didnt realize why it was acting funny (it wasnt getting grounded);
Sixth, back in the old 486 days, repairing my brothers computer, pulled the turbo switch wires off the motherboard, noticed they were electrical taped together from where we bought the computer at, tried to put them back on so since they were separated and i forgot how the went on there, i just started putting them here and there on the motherboard, until it shorted out;
well thats all i can think of

Thats why MAN invented bars. Those are thew best occasions to forget at a bar, just go there with some friends (from what you wrote I would recommend friends who's computers you didn't "fix" ) and have some drinks man and tell stories. I would recommend a bar in walking distance whenever possible, or one friend sacrifice and just drink soda and hold the keys. Happy Drinking!!
ps I hope you're old enough

You have about 5 good examples there of why we should never A-S-S-U-M-E
I.E. before formatting a partition always do a dir to make sure it's the right one.

i believe that the reason that your drives were confused is that the system list all the primary partitions first (ie. ide0 partition 1, ide1 partition 1, ide0 partition2, etc...). extended partitions then get listed after. Since there was only one drive, they were in order, but as soon as the second drive was seen, it became the second drive and the extended partition listed last.
