While you might well be right about the price, the processor speed would still be in the range that it is. Why? Because even without competition, Intel would still want us to keep upgrading as often as possible to keep getting more of our cash. Need an example? Microsoft doesn't have much competition and keeps coming out with new versions of Windows. Intuit releases a new version of Quicken every year but hasn't significantly changed the program in quite some time. The trick in sales is to get the most you can as often as you can....</strong><hr></blockquote>
Sowulo is absolutely right.
One of the reasons Windows XP has such staggering requirements is because it needs to be that way. This is to boost PC sales. If it ran perfectly on a Pentium II (although I did take it for a spin on a Pentium II with 256mb PC100 and it ran pretty well) then who would need a new computer to use it?

If Intel makes such good processors then would someone PLEASE tell me why EVERYTIME they release a new chip there is ALMOST ALWAYS a problem where the need to be recalled. The original Pentium had a math error, the PIII Socket 370's had a problem with some of the Socket 370 mainboards, I think the original Slot A's had a problem, the P4's had a problem.
At least with AMD they work, and they work well. And they are faster in my instances than Intel chips. And they are 1/2 the price!

My dad said he was learning about computer when I was an embryo. One data he stuck a parallel cable you know where and at the same time a radioactive comet struck our house at the same time a neighborhood power surge right when there was a solar ecplise right when a ice cream truck turned on to our street and here I am today. A digital god.

I prefer Intel CPU's since they run cooler , I have a k6 2 500 based system that runs good , I just find that AMD CPU's run warmer

This has gone way beyond the original topic and we don't need anymore AMD/Intel 'debates.'
