Is a 300W power supply enough for a Dual PIII system?
I recently built a PC with Dual PIII 1 Ghz processors. The customer requested a 300W power supply, so I built the machine and didn't think much about it. But the system came back the next day with a bad power supply (the system wouldn't even POST.) Do I need to install a higher wattage power supply, or was this probably just a bad unit to begin with? Or could it be another problem entirely? Any thoughts are appreciated.
The specs are:
Dual PIII 1 Ghz
ASUS CUV4X-D
2 GB ECC RAM
30 GB IBM HD
Floppy/CD-ROM
Creative Labs GeForce 2 256
Yamaha DS-XG Sound
D-Link 10/100 Ethernet

If the problem truelly is the power supply, I'd say you just got a bad one. 300W should be more than enough for what you're running in that system.

Dudd power supplies happen.
Speaking of which if has a sparkle power supply I recommend getting rid of it ASAP. They have a habit of shooting large blue lightning bolts out the back of the case. We've had probably 20 in the last month or so. It's always hilarious.
Customer: I was using my computer then all of a sudden I heard a loud bang and electricity shot out the back of the computer.
Me: (trying not to laugh) Mmm Hmmm
Customer: Is this normal?
Me: (close to losing it) Better bring it in for service, just in case.
There are no stupid questions! Just stupid (l)users!
