hp precision scan

I have a customers computer here (Compaq Presario 7478, ick) that runs fine until I load their HP scanner software. The scanner is a HP 3300. System is running win98 fe and runs great until I load scanner software. Software asks to reboot, I say OK, the next time windows loads, I get mprexe has caused an invalid page fault in unknown. The system locks hardcore at this point and I have to use the magic reset button to reboot.

The only thing I have found that was loading on startup concerning the scanner is the program to continue setup (They ask you to leave the CD in). I removed it from the startup group. I can't find anything in any .ini or the registry that's starting up anything concerning the scanner.

Any ideas?

Check HP's website for a patch for that scanner, I have had numerous other problems with that model even though it is fairly new
