Toshiba Satellite Password
I got a Toshiba Satellite Laptop in for repair that has a BIOS/Boot password that of course the owner did not put on and has no clue how it got there...I have removed the DC power battery, ripped the notebook apart and removed to coin-cell battery packs that were hooked to the mainboard, and still cannot clear this password. Toshiba says it can be removed, but only by an Authoized Servce Provider....anybody have any ideas how to get rid of this password without paying Toshiba mucho bucks????

IF you can get hold of a manual for the mainboard there's usually some jumpers to reset the bios to factory standard somewhere.
I have no idea where you could get the manual though. Sorry.

Any idea if it's an award bios? If it is you could always try the default password of AWARD_SW.

You might try the 'killcmos' utility available on this site. It will restore all factory defaults.

You're gonna think this is nuts, but put the CMOS battery in backwards. It's worked for me on stubborn old mobos that won't give up their CMOS. :-)

I have also had this problem at a store i used to work for. We called Toshiba and they told us they had a special loop back plug that went onto the motherboard somewheres and that only they could do it at their location. So good luck in finding out about this.

Toshiba has a card that plugs into the Main board that will clear the password. I spoke with a tech at toshiba because I had the same problem, he said the only other way is to replace the entire main board ($$$$), they do that so Thieves don't profit and customers don't lose their sensitive data.
