Is this modem real? Or am I goin nuts?
I have a 3com modem here... I believe it's an OEM modem. But I have no way to tell... It's PCI which leads me to believe it's a winmodem. There is one identifying barcode sticker on the modem with what looks to be a serial number... and or model number...
this is it...

If someone could give me some help getting an ID on this thing so I can DL some drivers I would appreciate it.

Not sure on this particular modem but usually the number starting with 66 is the number you want to look for on usr/3com's web site. good luck they can be a real pain to identify sometimes. there are also some "generic" drivers that MIGHT work. Let me know if this helps, if not I'll see what I can do.

I didn't have any luck either on 3com or Google. You can try a couple of these drivers though:

Well I'll try them when I get back, none of them seem to be the same part number, and it doesn't look to be a telepath modem. The only other identifying mark I can find is a chip that looks to be the main processing chip (just cause it's bigger and has alot of traces connecting to it), has "Analog Devices AD1806JS"
Thanks for both your help so far.

Well, unfortunatly none of those drivers work. It seems that I can't figure out where the heck this thing came from.. "Some Dude" built it for the customer and does not return thier calls for help...
Unfortunatly I am at a loss... Anybody else?

USR/3COM make decent modems. I think USR's modems were better before the company's merged! It's the same old problem that people have had with many USR modem's right from the start. They never lable anything so it's always a guessing game.
I still haven't figured out which drivers to use with a PCI 56K win modem from 3com/usr that I pulled out of a spare machine at my work. Tried about 10 different drivers from the 3com site and none worked (not surprized that someone else had this problem too).
Good luck with your search!
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

I've had trouble id'ing usr modems too, especially the white box oem types, I 've call usr and they wouldn't even help me with those types, they said to get the drivers from the supplier, damn jerkwaters

I love us robo modems, they have the best connection rates and stability of any modem, but watch out if you buy a bulk one...make sure you hold onto that driver diskette and don't ever figure on a driver update, because US Robotics/3COM simply state, "We do not support the OEM modems, that is the responsibility of the seller." The OEM are nice to save money, but for the difference in price, it's almost worth it to buy the retail for the updates and support from 3COM.
