    Talking Win98 IP Gateway issue

I have a win98 machine on a LAN with 2 gateways installed. Gateway 123.123.123.1 is used for our Internet access. Gateway 123.123.123.254 is used for telneting to a Unix server (offsite).

When the computer first boots up, one can open IE5 and use the Interent. Then, if the user wants to connect to the Unix server they can close IE5 and telnet to the Unix server without a problem. The problem now starts when you try to open IE back up to go onto the net again. It seems that IE is trying to use the wrong gateway for net access (123.123.123.254) which was the one just previously used to the telnet connection. Is there something I can do to reset the default gateway for IE back to 123.123.123.1 without having to reboot the machine? Maybe with a "ROUTE" batch file?

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!

BTW, I don't want to uninstall the .254 gateway to leave the .1 and then have to use a ROUTE batch to connect to the .254. I would like for both gateways to be able to coexist on the same machine.

Have a look at the 'HOSTS.SAM' & 'LMHOSTS.SAM' files located in the Windows Directory.

Not sure if they will help you ? But ya never know.
