Post Looking for Recommendations for NT Utilities / AV Software?

    Like it says......
I would like some direction on which utility/av software or suites are available for NT Server 4.0. Looking for reliablity, ease of updating, support, etc.. ya know, the usual! Recommendations based on actual personal experience are preferred. Will be deploying on a start up company's single server/2 workstation network. The client OS is Win98. Setting up direct access w/ PCanywhere 9.x at first, possibly RAS later.

    Thank youuuuuuu!

My preference is for Norton AV2000. This is due in part to "what you know you trust". Though I should note that when all that love stuff was buggin the world Norton were about a day or so behind Mcafee to release their virus definitions update.

I don't think anyone at Norton uses the security hole call outlook express
it seems the days of the real viruses are over now the macro-virus wars have begun.

    Kudos! re:NAV vs. "Love Virus"
By & large, despite being a target, Symantec does shine!

I have to agree. The LoveLetter worm was first detected on 5-3-2000 in Asia and Symantec released their updated definitions on 5-4 (happy birthday to me, I guess LOL).

Anyone who has used NAV Corporate Edition (v7.0, one version above NAV2000) knows why my shop deals with so much of this product. Easy to install, configure, and distribute, and the updates are automatic accross the LAN. I can't think of an easier to administer product. If you want to purchase it, it comes bundled as "Norton AntiVirus Enterprise Solution 4.0."

By the way, in response to your other question, I prefer the Symantec Norton Utilities for NT. Just don't leave the System Doctor running. SpeedDisk for NT is teriffic, although in a multi-server environment I've used a utility called PerfectDisk 2000 from Raxco software. It has a central administration tool that allows you to monitor and defrag several NT servers and workstations at once. Also, I've mentioned the BlueScreen capture utility. It's invaluable for bluescreen evaluation.

Let me know if you want, I have a word doc here that all our engineers use for a step-by-step procedure to install NAV Enterprise, and also an administrator's manual (both written by yours truly, which means the info is surely only marginally correct LOL)

The install doc is about 100K, but the manual is 44 pages long and 10 MB.
