Olitec modems
Does anybody know anything about the quality of these modems.
I need a modem that will recieve faxes and be an answer machine when the computer is turned off.
The Olitec Smart memory 56000 seems ideal but at £80 is a bit much to spend to find it might be a pile of crap.

Never heard of these modems... Im sure they are UK only product... however.. all modems FAX , however to be an answering machine the computer must be on and the correct software should be installed (which is available). Unless the MB in your computer has WOM (Wake On Modem) it wont answer the phone. Also, the time it takes to boot up out of standby mode the person calling will probably hang up..

Hamish07,
This modem is designed to take messages when the computer is OFF. It has a flash card to store the messages, and will even recieve faxes when the computer is off.
If you want to see this modem the go to http://www.olitec.com/indexab.html
