I am trying to keep my PC in tip top shape, but I have an error that keeps cropping up. I've gone to Microsoft Support but there is no information for a solution to this particular problem. Everything works fine as far as I can tell, but I know that danger is a lurking. I am just wondering if anybody might have a smidgen of ideas ro solve this problem. The following message keeps cropping up.
"Source: Service Control Manager
The ASPI32 service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified."

'Usually' this particular error is caused by some 'messy' uninstall & results from the errant registry entry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic e\ASPI32
being present when the service isn't actually required.
However just to be on the safe side, I'd go to Adaptec (who own the intellectual property rights to this particular technology) & get the latest windows aspi pack from here, install that & then run the aspichk utility to make sure everything is 'funky' ..
If that all checks out ok, next look at services.msc (just type that in the 'run box') & see if the service is actually present, it may well not be, in which case then you delete the reg key (having made a backup of course ) which ought to stop your error .
Let us know how you get on.

it went away...
By golly it went away. You are right, I did have a messy install with an HP scanner. I had updated to the latest drivers but something else had went haywire. Now I'm pleased as punch. My Event viewer has given me a clean slate and thus I never would have figured it out in a million years...
Thank You,
FM
