Im on XP pro. i have a Lite-on DVDRW drive and 1 DVD rom drive. the rom drive works fine. the burner drive will not read a disc or burn to it. when i put in a disc with info on it, it will show the green light for about 30 seconds, then blink acouple times then nothing. when i go to that drive to read the disc it shows nothing on the disc. if i put a blank disc into the drive does the samething, and if i try to burn on it, it tells me to install a disc. I have switched out the DVDRW drive with another and get the same problem. so not hardware related. the Device manager shows it operating properly.
i have updated the firmware on the drives, i have unistalled and reinstalled the drivers several times but no change.im using Nero for burning. I recently installed a Gforce 6600 sound card, but it had been working fine. i burned a music CD and it burned fine, but the drive was blinking. i removed the disc, still blinking. i rebooted and now having this problem. any help would be great!!Im guessing a virus, did AVG virus scan and found nothing.HELP!! thanks
thanks for the response....second drive is good.
checked power but havent changed out ribbon cable...thats a good idea!
SFC/scannow didnt help. thanks i will try cable...
Try replacing the dvd/rom with your new dvd/rw. Use the same ide cable, Mainboard connection and power connection that your dvd/rom worked with.
If the dvd/rw works on the known good config then try the dvd/rom on the connection thats giving you trouble.
Make sure both units have the jumpers properly inserted
You know the dvd/rom works. If the dvd/rw works on the dvd/rom config then the issue is possibly ide cable, power supply connection or ide controller.
If the rom drive will operate on the config that would not work for the dvd/rw. Make an offering to the spirts of spinning mechanical devices and use the new config.
If the dvd/rw does not work on the known good config then take a long hard crosseyed look at the dvd/rw and replace it.
Reinstalling Windows to resolve an issue is Like cracking a Walnut with a Sledge Hammer. The Walnut will crack. But whats the point if nothing salvageable remains
well did that, and looking like a drive problem......very strange that 2 different drives would go out at the same time.....Im going to borrow a DVDRW drive from a friend and see what happens....
