Right now, I'm listening to Eric Clapton and B.B. King's Riding With The King. Frankly, I get depressed about how little new music I get to hear. I'm up here in the middle of nowhere, and outside of Country, Country & Western, Western & Country, Christian Radio, High Plains Public Radio, one Hispanic station, the Amarillo Community College Station, one Moldy Oldy station and a Top Hits station (HipHop and pap like Taylor Swift) there isn't any broadcast radio.

Pretty depressing. I spend most of my screen time in front of a Windows 7 Beta computer running IE 8 beta and Firefox 3.1 Beta 2. Surprise, many of the players for some of my old favorite stations like Texas Rebel Radio and KGSR don't work. Even so, neither of those stations are nearly as adventuresome and experimental as they used to be. Last night I thought I'd listen to KGSR and get the John Mayer taste out of my mouth. First two cuts I heard were IZ performing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and U2's "Magnificent". That wasn't quite enough to induce projectile vomiting, but it was pretty damn close.

Thank God for GotRadio.com and Pandora!

Interesting sound, Niclo! I must admit, it puts me in the gaming mood. God Module is especially fun to listen to. Funker Vogt is more of a dance tune, IMHO. But still catchy!

Wow I can safely say that's the first time someone has listened to my music and didn't hate it.

Now it's been a while but isn't that Queensryche song a cover of Pink Floyd? I could be wrong it's been about 10 years since I last listened to Pink Floyd and about 20 years since I saw them in concert.

Oh and when I'm not needing a hyper beat to keep me in pace I listen to Classical. Beethoven can never get old.

This is what I've crafted up last week to use as background music whenever I play City of Heroes (especially on my tech tanker). Thanks for some of the bands you listed. I just might add t hem into my list now.

What I like about this system is that it's dynamic. If I decide to embed the code in a webpage somewhere, I can still add/remove any songs from that interface.

I'm listening to a radio station right now, out of Burlington: http://www.999thebuzz.com/

If it's Silent Lucidity (video won't play for me), then yes... and no: http://www.metroactive.com/papers/cr...pink-0433.html

Queensryche's 1990 Top 5 hit "Silent Lucidity" wasn't a cover per se, but it was nothing if not an echo of "Comfortably Numb." "Anybody Listening?" and "Resistance," from the same double-platinum album, Empire, also sounded like they were built from The Wall, and Queensryche made no attempt to hide that fact, talking up their debt to Pink Floyd and turning a generation of junior-high MTV fans onto the band in the process.

    Orlando Consort: Worcester Fragments

Very little English mediaeval music survived Henry VIII's dissolution of the Catholic church. The music for the Worcester Fragments dates from around 1290 and is probably from a single manuscript from Worcester Abbey. Fragments of the manuscript survive because its leaves were recycled for things like book repair.

None of the videos are the bands just fan made ones. Most of the bands don't have videos. If anything just listen don't watch.

    Lunacy by God Module

Face of Death by Suicide Commando

    Cold War by Funker Vogt

    And just for giggles

Moonlight Sonata by Ludwig van Beethoven

I can't wait to see what you have to say lol.
Sorry Nicolo ... not my bottle of scotch....

About the closest I get to listening to techno stuff might be Jon Hassel:

Your custom list of songs is almost the same as my pandora.com selection that I run through when gaming I have to admit the songs I like go very well with PVP for me.

Oh and house thanks for the leads I'll have to check those out later. I'm not a fan of techno as much as industrial but I have found some techno that goes well with my tastes before and I"m sure what you offered up will have more to add to my collection

Niclo, I don't want to shock you, but a lot of us not only can't tell the difference between Techno and Industrial, but we don't want to know. Not putting down your choice of music, just saying everyone had different tastes. Don't hate it, but I don't embrace it.

Anyway, I spent a lot of time listening to Pandora.com today, and it it was evidently Cape Breton Day. I'll include a couple of links where you can hear some of the music from The Cottars and Natalie McMaster, but the clips aren't really representative of the artists work.

Are you aware of Power Tab Editor?

    http://www.power-tab.net/guitar.php

The web used to have a lot of sites, such as Mike's Guitar Site, where people with very good ears would upload their transciptions of popular guitar music in Power Tab form. The grey area of copyright issues in which these sites existed seems to have become polarized into a legal black and white and most of these sites seem to have been shut down. It is sad in someways. You cannot simply pop over to a music shop and buy transcriptions of similar accuracy and detail - a labour of love often produces more interesting results than a commercial transaction when it comes to transcribing music.

I have never really wanted to play exactly like anyone else, except for a brief period where I was completely infatuated with John McLaughlin and even then I did not have the time, energy or talent required to emulate him in anything but the most superficial of ways. I do not play like Eric Johnson, for example. I do not want to play like Eric Johnson. But there sure is a lot I can learn about technique from being able to take apart an accurate transcription of something like Cliffs of Dover - it is much less frustrating and time consuming than trying to do the same thing with my not always reliable ear.

Quite understandably, the lawyers have driven the Power Tab file sharing community off the immediately visable landscape of the Internet. Someone does own the copyright to the music. And in my mind, an exact transcription of the studio version of Cliffs of Dover is not much different than a pirated MP3 file. Johnson sees no royalties from either. Sadly I do not see the "music industry" stepping up to fill in the void left by the demise of the Power Tab sharing sites.

Hmmmm a long way off thead topic now...

    Bye.

Well, since we're off topic, it's worth adding that as old resources become unavailable, new ones appear. Youtube has a lot of videos available from Guitarworkshop. Some instructional videos can also be found by searching gtrworkshp. 'Course, you do have to spend some effort separating the wheat from the chaff.
